AMRITSAR: Visit
the Golden temple - The sacred Sikh sanctuary,
marbled,
bronzed & covered with gold leaf wherein the Guru Granth Sahib- The
Bible of the Sikhs is placed reverently. Also see the Community Kitchen

CHANDIGARH :
Chandigarh was Designed by Le Corbusier, is the state capital of Punjab
and Harayana states. The famous French architect. Half day tour includes
visit to the Secretariat, High Court, State Library, Assembly Chambers,
University, Botanical Garden and the beautiful lake. Asia's largest rose
garden, Zakir Gulab Bagh, spread out over 30 acres of land, boasting of
50,000 rose-trees of 1600 different species!!
Covering an area of 56 square kilometres, Chandigarh is the first
`planned' city of India. The city has neatly laid out roads and parks,
buildings ranging against mountain peaks, boulevards and streets lined
by endless rows of trees and shrubs. The city is named after the Goddess
Chandi Devi, whose white - domed temple stands on the slope of a hill in
the north east of Chandigarh, on the edge of the Shivalik hills. Spread
over an area of 114 sq. kms, it is a modern city, built in 47 sectors.

MOHALI (SAS NAGAR):
Mohali (S.A.S.Nagar) is a Municipal Council Class-A. Its population in
2001 census was 85.58. It is practically a part of Chandigarh. It is
located at a distance of 5 Kms from Chandigarh between Chandigarh &
Kharar on National Highway No.21. S.A.S.Nagar is at a distance of about
95 Kms from Ludhiana.
In order to keep the memory of those, alive and fresh in the minds of
generations to come, who sacrificed their lives for the mankind , the
city of Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, popularly known as S A S Nagar was
named after the son of Tenth Guru Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. This
township has the distinction of its development on the pattern of the
city beautiful Chandigarh, envy to its neighbours, to reduce population
pressure on Big Brother.A very famous historical Gurdwara with the name
of Amb Sahib, which has the blessings of Guru Har Rai Sahib Ji is
situated in this town.

BEAUTIFUL CITIES:
Sangrur:
80 Kms from Ludhiana, 48 Kms from Patiala capital of the erstwhile Jind
State. The Palaces of the state fell to the share of Haryana .
Government Civil Secretariat and Diwan or Assembly Hall of the erstwhile
State are some of its worth mentioning structures, well planned Banesar
Garden in the north of the city with an attractive marble baradari is a
popular picnic spot now.
Ludhiana
Although Manchester has changed, but, Ludhiana still is called
theManchester of India. Punjab's most populous metropolis, its hosiery
goods are in demand in all the markets of the east and the west , which
include America and Russia. Machine tools, dyes, cycle parts, mopeds,
sewing machines and motor parts are also exported from Ludhiana. Home of
India's leading Agriculture University, Ludhiana is also the home of
fairs and the spearhead of green revolution.
Khanna, its satellite town is the Asia's biggest grain market. Kila
Raipur on the outskirts of the town is the progenitor of rural sports.
At Moga the Swiss multinational business house, Nestle, manufactures a
variety of food specialties.
Jalandhar
It is the oldest city in Punjab. It is the centre of that area of the
State which has maximum Non-Resident Indians. This has made it a rich
and forward looking city. Jalandhar is India's foremost producer of
sports goods as it is of hockey Olympians and leading football players.
It is one of the biggest centres of the vernacular press in India.
Its satellite town, Phagwara is a leading industrial focal point with
famous cloth manufacturing and sugar mills; because of its NRI
association its cloth and drapery shops have become international
shopping centres.
Another satellite town Goraya produces fodder chopping machines of all
types-called toka in Indian languages. Goraya is known as the toka town
of India. Now it is famous for manufacturing harvesting combines and
axles of all kinds.
Kartarpur, its satellite historical town is one of the biggest exporters
of quality furniture.
Patiala
Erstwhile capital of one of India's richest princely states, city of
palaces and museums, is a consumer goods emporium. Punjabi shoes, golden
and silver, shoes embroidered in several patterns and colours to
matchdresses, silver and gold embroidered "naalas" (or pyjama strings)
parandhas(women weave them at the end of their plaits or braids) of
varied shapes and designs but uniformly beautiful hand-woven head
coverings, Phulkaris which can only be described as embroidered epics
and its vegetarian and non- vegetarian royal cuisine are famous.
The painted chamber of Kali Devi temple on the Mall is a protected
monument.
Rajpura, midway between Patiala and Chandigarh is an old Mughal outpost
with a dilapidated fort. It is an important town today. Cables, tyres
and a whole range of agro-products are manufactured here.
The famous Horlicks Company has a manufacturing unit at Nabha situated
at a distance of about 25 kms from Patiala.
Bathinda
Known for its fort and for being one of the biggest cotton producing
regions of India. Bathinda is well connected to New Delhi and other
cities of India by fast trains. A big thermal power plant and fertilizer
factory is located here. A big oil Refinery is also coming up in the
district.
Pathankot
Pathankot connected by rail and road and situated in the picturesque
foothills of Kangra and Dalhousie near river Chakki is an important link
city for going to Jammu and Kashmir, Dalhousie, Chamba, Kangra and the
deep Himalayas. It is surrounded by picturesque spots; Shahpur Kandi
with a hanging rest house, Madhopur Headworks which date back to the
Mughal era, Malikpur where India's foremost hydraulic research station
is situated.
Kapurthala
19 Kms from Jalandhar. Originally founded by Nawab Kapoor Singh. It was
made the capital of a new State founded by S. Fateh Singh Ahluwalia. It
is a city of beautiful buildings and boulevards. Panch Mandir, Moorish
Mosque, Shalimar Garden, Jagjit Palace (now Sainik School) have few
equals in design and construction.
Anandpur Sahib
The valley from Ropar, through Kiratpur Sahib and Anandpur Sahib is full
of Gurudwaras. Information about them is available at Sri Takht Kesgarh
. Situated on the left bank of the river Sutlej at a distance of about
41 kms.from Ropar on the Chandigarh-Nangal Road,Anandpur Sahib,the abode
of peace with its numerous Gurudwaras stands out in picturesque relief
against the Naina Devi mountain range. Founded by Guru TeghBahadurji,the
ninth Sikh Guru,Guru Gobind Singh Ji,the tenth Guru had baptised the
first five Sikhs called 'Panj Piare' here.The festival of Hola Mohalla
celebrated here is renowned world-wide for the splendour of martial
display exhibited by the Nihangs.During the tercentenary celebrations of
the birth of the "Khalsa"(1999) Anandpur Sahib is being put as a must on
the tourist map of India.
